Announcement of erex Singapore’s first PKS shipment

We are pleased to announce that “eREX Singapore PTE.LTD (hereinafter referred to as “erex Sg”)”, a subsidiary of erex Co.,Ltd.*1 a centralized fuel management base, has sent the first in-house procured PKS vessel from Tanjung Bruas Port, Malacca, Malaysia, to Saiki Power Plant (located in Saiki-shi, Oita-ken).

In order to procure highly qualified biomass fuel stably, economically and with flexibility, erex Sg has been working closely with the local companies in Malaysia and Indonesia regarding erex’s investment business and the collecting and manufacturing process for PKS. The first PKS shipment was made on November 26th from “Straits Green Energy Sdn Bhd”, a Malaysian investment company. We will build a well-balanced procurement portfolio by considering price stability, competitiveness and flexibility to expand the biomass fuel procurement chain, and continue to make active efforts not only for erex group’s power plants but also for external sales.

erex currently operates one of the largest biomass power plants in Japan whose total output is 70 MW (as of 2018) and uses PKS for fuel. We are also working to develop our renewable energy business under the government’s “Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program for renewable energy”.
As a pioneer in the biomass electric power business field, we have been procuring PKS for many years. Fully utilizing the experience gained from this business and the all the knowledge or know-how accumulated in order to procure a qualified fuel stably, we hope to promote our business not only for ourselves but for external power producers as well.
To even satisfy our customers, we are planning to generate a total output of approximately 345 MW using 6 power plants and maintain our leading position in the biomass power business field to develop various renewable energy businesses in the future.
*PKS (Palm Kernel Shell): Oil palm kernel shell is produced when oil is extracted. It is used as a biomass fuel in Japan and other countries and its demand is expected to increase in the future.
