– The First Ministerial Meeting of the Southeast Asia Partnership was Held, Aiming to Achieve Both Economic Growth and De-Carbonization –

At the “Public-Private Investment Forum of the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC)” promoted by the Japanese government held on March 3, 2023, Hitoshi Honna, Representative Director & President of erex Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as the “Company”) gave a presentation titled “Stopping Climate Change with Challenge and Speed – Transition in Southeast Asia”

The first ministerial meeting of the “Public-Private Investment Forum of the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC)” was held on March 3 and 4 this year in preparation for the G7 Hiroshima Summit to be held in May of this year, in an effort to accelerate efforts to achieve both de-carbonization and economic growth in Asia.

As the international environment surrounding energy changes, it is important for Asian countries to promote energy transitions that are tailored to each country’s situations in order to simultaneously address stable energy supplies, sustainable economic growth, and climate change countermeasures.

Under these circumstances, the Company has been working on “construction of biomass power plants in Vietnam and hydropower plant in Cambodia, development of large-scale biomass fuels in Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries” and “transition of coal-fired power plants to biomass co-firing” as part of its mid-term business plan, which focuses on “creating new innovation toward de-carbonization” based on the concept of achieving both de-carbonization and stable energy supply.

In Southeast Asian countries where unused biomass resources are abundant, there is much room for the introduction of renewable energy, and the Company believes that it can make use of its experience that has been accumulated so far.

The Company also believes that power generation using locally grown and harvested biomass fuels will increase the ratio of renewable energy in Southeast Asian countries and contribute to job creation.

The Company will contribute to the realization of low-cost and speedy de-carbonization while ensuring a stable energy supply, taking into full consideration the unique circumstances of Asian countries.

In addition, in cooperation with the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC), the Company has concluded an MOU with the provinces of Yen Bai and Tuyen Quang in Vietnam for the joint development of fuel business in the country.

The Company also confirmed that it will cooperate with these provinces to start construction of the biomass power plants as soon as possible, which are currently under application for PDP8.

As an integrated energy company with a mission of de-carbonization, the Company will contribute to the prevention of global warming and the realization of a de-carbonized society in Japan and overseas.
