Initiatives to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Coal-Fired Power Plants
-Itoigawa Power Plant Completing 10%-30% Woody Biomass Fuel Co-Firing Test-

erex Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-Ward, Tokyo, Representative Director and President: Hitoshi Honna, hereinafter referred to as the “Company”) is pleased to announce that at the Itoigawa Power Plant of Itoigawa Power Generation Co., Ltd., where the Company and Taiheiyo Cement Corporation (Head Office: Bunkyo-Ward, Tokyo, Representative Director and President: Masafumi Fushihara) are conducting a joint business, has conducted a co-firing test of woody biomass fuel as follows.
Note
The Company positions environmental conservation efforts, including measures to combat global warming, as one of its important management issues. A co-firing test of woody biomass fuel was conducted from September 12th to September 23rd at the Itoigawa Power Plant, which is working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired power plants.
In this test, the Company conducted a partial load constant load test and a load change test under co-firing of woody biomass, and confirmed that stable firing and power generation can be achieved with co-firing operation at a calorific value ratio of 10% to 30%.
Going forward, the Company plans to gradually vary the amount of co-firing in the current power generation equipment, check the operating status and collect various data, and consider full-scale operation to reduce CO2 emissions.
By woody biomass single-fuel-firing, the Itoigawa Power Plant is expected to be able to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 940,000 tons per year compared to coal single-fuel-firing. The Company will continue to promote the biomass fuel conversion project.
The Company plans to promote biomass co-firing at coal-fired power plants both in Japan and overseas, and aims to contribute to further reductions in CO2 emissions in fiscal 2030.
The Company will continue to move forward with its plans with the understanding and cooperation of local residents and related parties.
