Completion ceremony held for Ofunato Biomass Power Plant in Iwate-ken
Contribute to realize a low-carbon society by renewable energy with revitalizing the regional economy
The Ofunato Biomass Power Plant, one of Japan’s largest wooden biomass power plant, held a completion ceremony yesterday.
Ofunato Power Inc which was established in August 2016 as a joint investment by erex Co., Ltd.*1 and Taiheiyo Cement corporation*2, is the operating company for Ofunato Biomass Power Plant.

This project utilizes a renewable energy Feed-in Tariff (FIT) system, and Ofunato Biomass Power Plant is the fourth biomass power plant in which we have invested and participated in its operation.
About 55 people participated in the ceremony, including the Mayor of Ofunato, Mr. Kimiaki Toda, and other people involved in the construction work, to pray for the safety and to congratulate the completion of Ofunato Biomass Power Plant.
Masafumi Fushihara, President and Representative Director of Taiheiyo Cement Corporation commented, “Today’s completion ceremony is the first step for us towards the reconstruction from the earthquake and the first step towards the future of 100 years from now. We have the responsibility to supply electricity to the local people, and we will continue to cooperate with the development of Ofunato.”
Hitoshi Honna, President and Representative Director of erex, said, “We have been working together with Taiheiyo Cement to promote this business. We will continue to contribute to the development of Ofunato in cooperation with Taiheiyo Cement to serve as the foundation for the reconstruction of Tohoku.”
The erex Group will continue to promote the business that utilizes renewable energy both in Japan and abroad to realize a low carbon society. We will also contribute to the reconstruction of the Tohoku and the revitalization of the regional economy.
