Announcement for starting commercial operation of the “Ofunato Biomass Power Plant” in Iwate-ken
Ofunato Power Inc was established in August 2016 as a joint venture between erex Co., Ltd.*1 and Taiheiyo Cement Corporation*2, and has been constructing a biomass power plant in Ofunato since 2016. Here we announce that this biomass power plant has started its operation on January 1st, 2020.

This power plant’s power generation output is 75,000 kW, and it is one of the largest wooden biomass power plants in Japan.
Taiheiyo Cement will operate the power plant and erex will purchase all the electric power generated by the plant.
The two companies will also cooperate in the procurement and supply of biomass fuel.
erex will continue to promote business that utilizes renewable energy both in Japan and abroad to realize a low carbon society. We will also contribute to the reconstruction of Tohoku and the revitalization of the regional economy.
