erex Launches Aggregation Service for Operating Grid-Scale BESS

(Headquarters: Chuo-Ward, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Hitoshi Honna; hereinafter referred to as “the Company”) announces that, effective September 1, 2026, the Company launches an aggregation service (hereinafter referred to as “the Service”) targeting grid-scale ultra-high voltage / high voltage BESS owned by 3rd party companies. By managing market operations on behalf of BESS owners, the Company aims to enhance the value of BESS while contributing to the stable operation of the power grid.

1. The Background to the Launch of the Service
As the adoption of renewable energy expands in Japan, the importance of BESS is growing due to their role in providing the flexibility needed to balance electric power supply and demand. On the other hand, generating profits by utilizing these BESS through markets such as supply-demand balancing, wholesale electricity, and capacity requires specialized expertise. This includes adapting to market frameworks, formulating charge/discharge plans, and conducting advanced market analysis.

The Company has accumulated extensive knowledge in areas such as power market analysis, supply-demand management, risk management, and market trading through its operations in electric power retail, power trading, and power generation, as well as through the management of its own BESS. The Company will now leverage this expertise to manage BESS owned by 3rd party companies, thereby contributing to their enhanced profitability and operational efficiency.

2. Summary of the Service
Through the Service, the Company acts as an aggregator, managing the operation and market trading of ultra-high voltage and high-voltage grid-scale BESS owned by 3rd party companies by contract. 3. Overview of the Company’s Aggregation Business
The aggregation business involves the integrated control and operation of distributed energy resources, such as renewable energy, BESS, and demand-side resources, to optimize the balance between electricity supply and demand, thereby creating and delivering value within the electricity market.

The Company conducts its aggregation business based on the following four key areas:

  • Grid-scale storage batteries
  • Renewable energy-integrated BESS
  • Corporate PPAs
  • Demand response

By combining these distributed resources, the Company aims to provide supply-demand balancing capabilities and maximize earnings opportunities in the electricity market.

4. Future Outlook
The Company aims to expand its aggregation business through grid-scale BESS services, and to manage a total capacity of 100 MW by 2028 (based on capacity to be handled).
